Original air date: December 23, 2011

“Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus! He is Legendary Santa and he has made Richmond, Virginia his home for 75 years. From the day after Thanksgiving to the afternoon of Christmas Eve, Legendary Santa, sitting in his great gilded chair amidst the twinkling lights of Santa Land, listens to the Christmas wishes of thousands of youngsters and the young at heart. Generations of Richmonders have made visiting Legendary Santa a cherished Christmas tradition since he first set up shop downtown at the grand flagship store of Miller and Rhoads. His followers come from across town, as well as from across the country. They all make their pilgrimage, from near or far, because of one pure and enduring belief…this is the real Santa.”

 <itunes:summary>The Lab Rat Chronicles
Original air date: September 23, 2011

“What can the common laboratory rat tell us about being human? According to behavioral neuroscientist Kelly Lambert, a whole lot. Her twenty- five-year career conducting experiments that involve rats has led her to a surprising conclusion: Through their adaptive strategies and good habits, these unassuming little animals can teach us some essential lessons about how we, as humans, can lead successful lives. From emotional resilience and a strong work ethic to effective parenting and staying healthy, the lab rat is an unlikely but powerful role model for us all.”

<itunes:summary>Lewis Ginter: Richmond’s Gilded Age Icon
Original air date: August 12, 2011
“As a war hero, philanthropist and entrepreneur, Lewis Ginter was many things to Richmond. Performing integral missions for “Stonewall” Jackson and Robert E. Lee, Ginter was commended for gallantry on the battlefield and became affectionately known as the “Fighting Commissary.” After the war, Ginter was the first major marketer of the hand-rolled cigarette in America. He developed one of America’s first streetcar suburbs and built the magnificent Jefferson Hotel, a symbol of Richmond’s ambition and prosperity. But beyond the well-known history of this River City icon, there are many aspects of his personal and professional life that few know about. Join local writer Brian Burns as he delves into the hidden history of Ginter’s extraordinary life to fill in the gaps between Ginter the man and Ginter the legend.”
